PRIX EUROPA 2022 started!
Political PRIX EUROPA kicks off in Potsdam today
Under the slogan "Media that matter" this 36th edition of the European media festival boasts a host of political themes across all media and genres: from television fiction series like "The Year of Fortuyn", digital media projects like "Automated Election Reports" or the podcast series "War On The Internet" to classic investigations like "Planet Killers", "The Russian Hitmen" or the radio documentary "Utøya Revisited". All in all, 187 productions from about 30 countries are nominated.
“What makes PRIX EUROPA different from other festivals" says Dr. Katja Wildermuth, Director General of the BR (Bayerischer Rundfunk) and PRIX EUROPA-President, “is that adjudication is not in the hands of traditional juries but in the hands of the media-makers themselves." Over 500 professionals from all over Europe will be taking part in this process, enabling a week-long exchange that has become increasingly important, Wildermuth continues: "PRIX EUROPA has taken up the cause of fighting for the fellowship of Europe by displaying all of its cultural diversity. Particularly in times of uncertainty and crisis, independent high quality media are more important than ever to foster informed debate and to keep societies together."
The Awards Ceremony will take place on Friday, 28 October 2022, in the Schinkelhalle in Potsdam. The Jury groups will confer 14 awards to the Best European TV-, Radio- and Digital Media Programmes of the Year, culminating in the announcement of this year's European Journalist of the Year, which honours a journalistic game-changer who has shown extraordinary creativity, courage and impact on their society or audience.
